2013 Design Trends: Odds and Ends

Sure, you've got the color of the year down. I mean, it's been announced EVERYWHERE. I also wrote about painted ceilings a few days ago. Looking for a couple more nuggets of 2013 Design Trend goodness? Happy to help. Check out a few more of my favorites that I discussed on my latest segment on AM Northwest.

BRASS

Brass is the word. I know when you hear the word "brass", you instantly think of old fashioned and outdated. Good news is, it's coming back in a super sexy reincarnation.

WHITE MARBLE
I am very happy about this one. White marble is crisp, clean and fresh. It also fits into many different design styles. There are so many options for marble right now. Anywhere from stark white to lots of gray veining. Go nuts!
Big thanks to my friends, Tara and Wendi, at Ann Sacks for lending the tile. If you're ever in the market for some unique surfaces, this is THE place to go!

If you like the fabrics I used on AM Northwest, they were supplied by the one and only Nest Showroom. I featured fabrics from Robert Allen, which is to the trade only. If you'd like to take a look at them in person, contact me for a trip to the Nest showroom. Lots of beauties to gaze upon.

The Emerald City

If you follow even one design blog out there, you know that Emerald was named Pantone's color of the year and I couldn't be happier. I LOVE jewel tones. Not to mention Emerald is my birthstone. I can't help but think this is a good sign for CoCo Designs.

Prepare yourself to see the market saturated in varying shades of Emerald/green jewel tones. Clothes, jewelry, make-up, accessories, home goods. It will be everywhere. As I type this, I have on green nail polish. I'll probably draw the line with hair color, though.

2013 Design Trends: Painted Ceilings

With a new year comes new design trends. I welcome 2013 with open arms. By October of every year, I'm usually pretty bored with the year's "it" design. Out with the old and in with the new.

Painted ceilings have been making a comeback for the last few years. But this year, I see people taking bigger and bolder choices with the paint selections. The ceiling is an easy way to add impact without painting the entire room. Add color, specialty finishes, wallpaper, etc.

1. HIGH GLOSS

High gloss, baby! I did this for a client last year and it is remarkable. Talk about
a statement. Remember when using high gloss paint, be very aware of your brush
strokes. High gloss paint shows EVERYTHING.

2. BLACK
I am so drawn to black paint right now. Dark, elegant, lovely. Keep in mind
that dark paint on a ceiling will make the room feel smaller. Be sure to select
a room that has lots of natural light.

3. GOLD
Is there anything more luxurious and regal than gold? I think not.
